About Coosa County

Coosa is a beautiful rural county nestled in the heart of central Alabama. The area is rich in animal and plant life, including the rare Cahaba lily (pictured above).

The Alabama Scenic River Trail runs down the western boundary of the county, with several portage points along the river. Hatchet Creek is a canoe and kayak hotspot with several “rated drops” along its path.The latest proposed extension of the Appalachian Trail, the Pinhoti National Recreational Trail, would end at Flagg Mountain located here in Coosa County. Lake Mitchell, Lay Lake, Lake Jordan and Lake Martin all have shoreline in the county and provide lakefront living and endless recreational opportunities.
